Jill Conner Browne is dedicating her next book to Smokey Davis. I can say, without doubt, had he lived to be 100 years old, he would have talked about this dedication for the next 41 years. He might have said something like, "What has two thumbs and has a book dedicated to them? This guy!" (while aiming and pumping both thumbs back into his chest)

Jill Conner Browne is THE Sweet Potato Queen and the author of the bestselling The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love, God Save the Sweet Potato Queens, and The Sweet Potato Queens' Big-Ass Cookbook (and Financial Planner). Jill's husband, Kyle Jennings, AKA "the Cutest Boy in the World" and the SQP were good friends of Smokey's.
Jill mentioned Smokey in several of her books, which he was most proud of. If you saw Dad right after one of Jill's books had been released you can bet he would have a copy of the book with him, and the pages that mentioned him marked with sticky notes. In the books, some of the things he is quoted as having said, were not things you'd want mentioned in mixed company (and I assure they always were!). It didn't mater if you were a grandmother or a man of the cloth, he was going to share it with you. It wasn't like you would read it and think who is Jill talking about? It would say, "My friend Smokey Davis from Mobile, AL said..."
